A But for Your Burden
Well if you’re a human and keep up with society, you’ll know that Houston is currently facing one of the biggest storms in US History. Yes. Allison & Ike’s daddy. Rita’s uncle. And his name is big bad HARVEY! The only thing Harvey has allowed me to do was get much needed rest and be productive by planning how I’m going to rebuild my city when he finally leaves.
Thought I’d start my “it’s been a long time” blog off with a little hurricane humor. I know most people are sad and devastated from losing their homes, cars, and being separated from their family. For those of us who haven’t lost anything, we’re left feeling sad, guilty, and grateful.
No matter how big or small a storm, God always brings sunshine when it’s over.
Whether you’re dealing with the storms of weather or the storms of life, I stopped by to tell you that God sees you. Some of you may be saying, “Why me? Why did I have to lose my stuff? Why did this happen to me? I’ve worked so hard and done all the right things.” It’s okay. Go ahead and question God, but you’re asking God the wrong questions. None of us are exempt from trials, tragedy, and tribulation. John 16:33 doesn’t say, “In this world some of you will have tribulation and some won’t…”
It says, “In this world YOU will have tribulation BUT be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.”
Don’t we just love how God put that BUT in there. There’s a storm going on right now BUT He’ll protect your life. You lost your car and house BUT God will supply all your needs. You’re hungry BUT man shall not live on bread alone. Even through your burdens, God always gives you a BUT and a BLESSING.
What you lost will be returned to you in abundance. God is making room for the things He’s about to bring you. The mistake we make is when we allow negativity to consume our mind so much that we believe God doesn’t exist, He’s ignoring us, or we’re doomed for failure. There is nothing in this world you can go through too hard for God.
Repeat positive affirmations to yourself in your head and aloud. Do what I do. Write them down and hang them all over the house. Write on the mirrors. Do whatever you need to do to remember He is keeping you in perfect peace. On my Facebook live session earlier, I spoke about how important it is that we stay encouraged through this, come together, and know that we can handle Harvey and whoever/whatever else comes our way.
I promise not to be gone this long again…
Stay tuned for posts on how The Troubled Movement will collaborate with two other organizations to start a rebuilding project for Houston.
Stay safe, stay dry, and stay home!
